That seems insane to me. How was Chooch not getting a guaranteed major league contract?

I've actually be re-watching the 2008 World Series the last few days and 2 games in he had some key moments, a home run a great tag at home plate.

However looking at his performance for 2008 it makes sense. 2009 was his first good offensive season. I had actually forgotten how good a hitter he was between 2010 and 2012.

Sounds like semantics, aren't all early-career (pre-arbitration) players with options basically on a split contract? Like, if Nick Williams gets sent down he's not going to get his major league salary. Certainly the major league $ could be guaranteed but not sure it's the default?
