LA completes the 4 game sweep. Fans are all over JRoll for his comments on them, and on Charlie for his team not being able to take control of this division as they drop into second place.

Onto San Diego and Greg Maddux. Ugh.

Jamie Moyer outdueled the youngster Maddux for a thrilling 1-0 win, Moyer leads the team with 11 wins.

Phils have the same exact record as they did in 1980 and 2007, currently a game out of first. Rudy Seanez off the DL, Mike Cervenek demoted again.

Some boos for JRoll on his return home, but Jayson Werth's 8th inning 'outtahere' gave the Phils the lead and eventually the win.

Tonight Pedro Feliz returns, Les Walrond DFA'd to make room.

Would be nice if Brett Myers could chip in again.

Myers the complete game shutout, his first shutout in 4 years. Phils a game and a half out, trying to sweep the Nats, who have lost 12 in a row. They're kinda due.

Bullpen failure in DC, and Phils are unable to sweep the Nats, which woulda helped since the Dodgers are coming in, since the Phils can't beat LA.

Phils are 2 1/2 games out. They face Greg Maddux, who was a Padre last time they faced him a short time ago.

Pat the Bat's 30th home run off the overmatched rookie Clayton Kershaw led the way for the Phils' easy 9-2 win, halfway to getting revenge vs LA for their 4 game sweep. Now a game and a half back of the Mets, look to continue the good times tonight on ESPN. Geoff Jenkins to the DL, Andy Tracy up to fill in.

I have known for 2 years we were going to hit this milestone. My wife died that day, been 10 years, I am ok, she was very sick and it was a relief of her pain, but despite the Phils win in the 10th, really not a good day.

If it makes you feel any better, she hated the Phillies (or at least my spending time on them), she was from Louisiana and couldn't understand why anyone could watch Baseball. It is still odd to me that New Orleans does not have an MLB team, it is the one major city in the US that stands out as having a fairly large area with no ML Teams (Houston is somewhat close, but not really).

Funny day for me, I am actually smiling when I think of her, so I guess it is "healed"

Brett Myers and Jimmy Rollins, part-time villains to the fan base this year (and other years!) come through to complete the 4 game sweep of LA. Phils welcome the first place Mets into town, trailing by a half game.

Quite the game last night. JRoll continues to be scorching hot, Mets get a big 7-0 lead but lose in 13, Chooch plays third, Clay Condrey gets his first (and only) extra base hit of his career, and Chris Coste gets a bunch of hits including the game winner off the bench. Phils are back in 1st.

Today they bring up Andrew Carpenter as even today's starter was warming up last night. We'll see if that affects Kyle Kendrick at all. Andy Tracy demoted to make room.

Apparently JC Romero was unavailable after the 13 inning game the night before, and the Mets win round 2 when Rudy Seanez can't get it done. The two game series is a split. Onto Chicago for four. Phils call up Fabio Castro and demote Andrew Carpenter.

I other news that night, Illinois Senator Barack Obama officially accepted the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Obama becomes the first person other than a white male to become a major party nominee for President. The buzz of the historic moment caused the DNC to move the final night of the convention from the Pepsi Center Arena to Invesco Field, the Bronco's NFL-size stadium.

Tomorrow, Republican nominee John McCain will make news that is particularly prescient ten years later.
