I remember watching the first couple of innings. Before the pre-game commercial break, Harry said something along the lines of "Coming right up, it's the Philadelphia Phillies and the Oakland Athletics who used to be the Philadelphia Athletics." On that note, 2008 was the Athletics' 54th season outside of Philadelphia, matching the total number of years they played in Philadelphia (1901-54).

And, some bloke named Blanton started for the A's.

Phils lose another series. Six series losses in a row. Awful. Yet they will have spent virtually the entire month of June in first place (took over first on the first day of the month). Day off today.

After only winning 12 games in June, big news on 7/1/08 as Brett Myers is optioned to the minor leagues. He really struggled in his return to starting. RJ Swindle will join the team in his place. Maybe playing a familiar foe in Atlanta will turn this around.

Chipper Jones has missed a bunch of games in a row, there was talk of the DL, but just our luck, he's back to play the Phils.

Phils rattled the rookie Charlie Morton and won fairly easily. But today it's Eaton's turn. Also, it's the 15th anniversary of the famous double header that ended at 4 something AM back in that magical season.

Phils' pen, which has been pretty good in 08, wasn't yesterday as the Mets won one. But we will have Brad Lidge for 3 more years as he signs an extension. But Tom Gordon is headed to the DL and RJ Swindle is coming back again.

In a 12 inning game that took 4 hours and 25 minutes, plus rain delays, the Phils lose, ugh. At least we got a Billy Wagner blown save. Looking to salvage a split today.

The Brewers are said to be trading for CC Sabathia, one of the starters the Phillies were targeting. Utley and Lidge are ALL Stars, Hamels is not, and Burrell is in the final vote deal.

Mets had a 10-1 lead, Phils charged back almost the whole way but lose 10-9. Maybe the 2007 magic is gone forever. Still in first place though as St Louis comes in for three.

Ryan Howard matches Utley for the league lead in homers as the Phils win a game! Utley was also named the best, and dirtiest, player in the NL. . J.A. Happ, last night's starter, was optioned back to AAA as All Star break is coming and he won't be needed for a while. Mike Cervenek coming up.

Utley and gang take the series. Now have the first place Diamondbacks coming in. Phils with a game and a half lead in the East.

Pat Burrell finished third in the fan voting for the final All Star spot. Corey Hart won.
