Kapler said he has lineups planned out for roughly a week and Herrera will get "a ton" of playing time. He added that more than offense went into his decision not to start Herrera. He said Aaron Nola was a ground-ball pitcher, "so we thought maybe we really want Odubel running around out there when the fly-ball pitchers come, not that our other guys aren't great, but Odubel is exceptional out there. So thinking ahead that some of our fly-ball pitchers are coming, we know those aren't going to be off days for him. Odubel will play a ton. He's an exceptional outfielder and a proven bat in the lineup and we can't wait to get him out there and that's coming."
Nice basehit for Cesar but he was thrown out at second on a weird little nubber from Santana. He slowed up coming into second rather than sliding and it looked (according to Kruk) that he didn't think theyd try for the play at second. Santana was safe at first at least, and got to second on a wild pitch. Scored on a double into right from Rhys.1-0 Phils
edit: Double for Rhys
Nice slide by Santana to get Albies out at first, you might even call it "Smooth".
Braves' catcher Flowers coming out of the game after tweaking something during an AB.
Is the play-by-play bot going to be working this season?
Flaherty with a bunt single to lead off the bottom of the third but he was the only base runner. 1-0 Phils after 3
Not the most exciting ballgame but Nola is having a pretty good night. Two hits and a walk through the first five innings. I don't believe a runner has gotten past first base. Nice snag by Nola on a one hopper from Teheran right at him to end the fifth. Hes faced the lineup twice, thrown about 65 pitches. I assume he stays in the game for at least the sixth unless they start hitting him hard.
Cesar goes deep (with no extra e's)! 2-0 Phils. Leading off the sixth.
Now 2-0 as C. Hernandez puts one over the fence!
Seems like the data guys had some better info on that Cesar-Teheran match-up
Rhys reaches first on a HBP (grazed his jersey) and then steals second! Altherr walks. Two on, two out for JP
Teheran is done for the day. Rex something or other is coming in. Who calls their son Rex?
Who predicted first Phillies stolen base of the season-Rhys Hoskins?
Mrs. Hudler. And Mrs. Tillerson. And hey, it's Latin for King.
And I guess the Banner family
It seems like a better name for a dog though. Or a dinosaur!
Fido walks back to back hitters to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead. Bases loaded, two outs. Spot is done for the night. The Fonz is coming in.
The Phillies have had 4 base runners in this inning. Three walks and a HBP.
Two run base hit for Knapp! 5-0 Phillies.
And we're off into the bullpen early as promised
Pulled after 68 pitches?
This is going to be a very different season. I guess they have a lot of guys out there to use and this game is effectively (almost) over.
