LSP...oh, a lot to be positive about tonight, a whole lot. This team, since Williams and then Hoskins showed up, has shown an impressive propensity for never letting a huge deficit get them down, they have shown great tenacity in rallying from way behind.
And this is an offense that still doesn't have Altherr back yet [best hitter on the team till he got hurt], Knapp is down and Kingery will add so much to this team next year when he comes up. Can you imagine if Cozens could ever figure it out? Sheesh.
If they get Machado, my gosh, they will have an offense to rival those of the Schmidt/Luzinski and Utley/Howard days.
One more thing worth noting. I have mentioned several times that Thompson, more than almost any of the young hurlers, seems particularly prone to falling apart when his defense does. If I can see it, I wonder why the Phils haven't? They need to put their absolutely BEST defensive lineup when he pitches until he gets to the point where he is confident enough in his talent that he can overcome it.
Look, I wish he was as mentally tough as Pivetta and Lively are, but he's not. But he does have talent, he is still very young, and he can be the guy who tips the Hamels deal scale way towards the Phillies way, especially if Hamels someday comes back to the team. Because for all his outstanding pitching since he went to Texas, and Hamels has been all they could have asked for, he has not delivered them even one playoff win, Darvish is now gone, and he talks more and more like he yearns to return home some day.
Williams looks like a future star, Eichoff will be fine, Alfaro looks like a future regular behind the plate and Thompson is the wild card which could make this trade everything we hoped for that exciting night in 2015 when it all came down.
