Failure to make a routine, easy play by Hernandez in the third opened the door to four runs for Washington. If Hernandez fields that routine grounder, Thompson gets out of the inning facing only 3 hitters -- and no hits, no runs. Two of the Nat's runs are unearned, three more would not have scored with routing fielding behind him.
The ball over Herrera's head just seemed to take off and I'm not sure he could have gotten to it even if he broke back almost off the bat.
