I was regretting Thomson’s decision, but thought Robertson was going to come through after the two strikeouts. But alas, it was not meant to be. I think Alvarado was the better choice, but then you’re searching for the right answer in the 10th inning if you get there.

Ranger would seem to be in serious danger of not being available for the playoffs if he hits too many innings. Maybe he's got some soreness too (but seems like everyone does).

Just a hunch but I think that he hurt his back about a month ago and isn’t right. He goes so far and then it tightens up on him.

He's now at 128 IP. Last season was 106, the max for his career. Two years ago he was injured and only threw 4 innings. Three years ago, he was both a reliever and starter, throwing a total 87 IP.

It doesn't alter the point as Suarez has now surpassed his previous high in IP with a month left in the season, but he did throw 124.1 IP on 2018 between 2 levels, as well as 122.2 IP total in 2017. He could definitely be hitting the wall in terms of endurance at this point.
