We did lose ground in the Wild Card race, the Reds won and the Padres are winning big late. The Cardinals lost though.

Well, the manager said it was just normal dead-arm. Which sounds a lot better than an actual injury, but usually dead arm is something you pitch through in the middle of the season, which isn't really possible here. Given what Suarez has gone through over the past two years he may just be coming up against his limit, as the article also notes.

Also, the story says we're not going to have a 5th starter the rest of the season, just bullpen games, though that would be no less true if Moore or Velasquez or Falter was actually the "starter."

We had noted throughout the game that his velocity was off 1-2 mph. So this could be dead arm. Or something else. My mind immediately went to the velocity when he was pulled even though TMac and RAJ were oblivious to that fact on the air. I guess it is a positive that he was not visibly straining and he was in command of all his pitches.

Bullpen games should not be that much of a problem, especially if Ranger is good for one time through the order. They will have 15 or 16 pitchers the rest of the way (though I might be tempted to have a 3rd catcher depending on how JT's ankle responds).
