Tough one to lose and one the Phillies needed if they are going to post season play this year.
We have to hang this lose on pitching. Nola was not sharp and the 3 walks in four innings were costly. In fact, his walk to Bauer was IMO the key to the lose tonight. The pen also gave up 3 more runs on two homers and negated a nice come back by the Phillies' offense. The ninth slot in the order went 3 for 3 with a double and two home runs.
Phillies get two pinch hit home runs. Last time they did that, it was Rip Repulski and Bob Bowman getting the long balls. Repulski never quite lived up to my expectations after the Phillies brought him over to play left field, replacing Del Ennis prior to the 1957 season. The Phillies lost that game back in 1958 to the Pirates, 10-9, after coming back from being down 10-3. They scored 3 in the bottom of the ninth to fall a run short.
The Phillies need to win tomorrow afternoon to keep momentum going into the big series with the Mets this weekend.
