Knapp looking okay in the final couple weeks and probably has cemented his hold on the back up catcher job for next season. While I certainly think there could be improvement at back up catcher, there are several needs to address before being concerned with a Knapp replacement.

Winning 80, 81, or 82 games really doesn't matter in the big picture, but I'd like to see the Phillies pull this game out and sweep this series to end 2019 on a real positive and getting the first winning season since 2011.

Knapp makes a very good throw to nail the runner trying to steal second, and then the next pitch is hit out. Knapp saves a run. I do think the Phillies are satisfied with Knapp as the backup catcher and he is probably as good as many in the league.

I think the bullpen had something like 15 scoreless inning before the second today. Three home runs so far is not looking good.

I don't think the Phillies need to go looking for a back-up catcher upgrade, which likely does not exist. (The Athletic had a good note earlier this week about how Knapp is no worse than Brian Schneider and Paul Bako on our 2009-2011 teams.) But they will inevitably bring someone in on a minor league deal as usual and it would be nice to see Grullon make his case in spring training (if he's not traded).

If this game actually meant something besides the window dressing of 82 wins you could definitely second-guess the bullpen game approach. Could have given it to Irvin. I suppose they wouldn't have actually trusted Pivetta (let alone De Los Santos who hasn't faced a live batter in four weeks). If this was a series against a team with playoff implications (like the Brewers and Cardinals games today) Nola probably still pitches.
