I’m going to say it again -the fact that they didn’t get a starter at the deadline is malpractice for a team with as little SP depth as we had/have. Going into the postseason with only 3 guys capable of giving you anything as a SP makes it an extreme long shot to win the whole thing.

Horrendous first inning for Suarez. I hate seeing the team noncompetitive even if the games are not that significant. Some say the second bye position is better than the first. 4th starter will make 1 start a series. Over potentially 19 games 3 starts is not everything. They won the division easily. Ranger was only a minor health question at the deadline, not a postseason issue. An extra starter was really not a major need at the deadline.

I don't think it's malpractice. The lack of a fourth starter didn't cost them last year or in 2022. They did get Thor in 2022 who was needed as an upgrade over Gibson and Falter, but there was no reason to think Ranger wouldn't come back okay or even that Turnbull would be hurt for so long. There was no way they were going to acquire someone who was anything other than a fringe 4/5 and Ranger still is that. They did that last year too with Lorenzen and it was a complete failure.

I still have faith in Ranger too, maybe in a more limited role but that was going to be the case for him and Sanchez anyway probably.
