This proved to be true, but I'm sure doling out extra runs late didn't help motivate the troops when the bats were already stone cold. Still, young bullpen notwithstanding, hard to excuse that mess of walks, balks, and automobiles - er, wild pitches.

Well, I wrote that when it was 3-0 and Segura had a chance to start a two-out rally, maybe knock in a run or bring Harper to the plate. He didn't, and the bullpen certainly sealed off any comeback hope from there.

A sweep is a lot to ask but probably so is a sweep of the Marlins. Either way we'll need a little help over that last week.

This team has many flaws. Certainly the bullpen is a big one, but the infield defense and the lack of a 5th starter is enough to keep most teams out of the post season. Actually, they have done much better than I thought they could at the season. Let's face it, they are still in the playoff hunt because the rest of the division is sub-par.Dombrowski has a lot of work to do it he is going to make this team into a contender.

I know Kennedy had a heavy load early in the week, but he didn't pitch on the 23 or the 24th, and tomorrow is an off day. Maybe the Phillies still lose this one 3-0 but reliever workload's not gonna be a concern for much longer. Of course if Kennedy, too, is actually hurting, that's an even bigger problem.

Neither closer Ian Kennedy nor Sam Coonrod was available out of the bullpen, leaving manager Joe Girardi to stick with erratic lefty José Alvarado, who gave up two runs in the seventh inning on four walks, a balk, and a two-run double by Ke’Bryan Hayes. Adonis Medina, called up last week from triple A, gave up two more runs in the eighth.

Crouse is neither as talented as Howard or as close to ML ready.
Throwing 94 consistently, but lost velocity over 50 pitches
Only had one secondary pitch, a kinda funky slider/cutter.
Command was erratic.
Needs a full year in AAA ball.

Sanchez however looked promising.

I wasn't trying to criticize your comment - there are a number of games this year when I've seen/heard the pitching staff receive the brunt of the blame for giving up six runs while the lineup produced only two (or less). For a team whose designers seemed to favor run production to prevention, I felt some of that criticism misplaced.
