It's not a good look for anyone. You would have liked to think that something - desperation, pride, or even the relaxation from being eliminated - would have sparked a little energy. I think injuries also played a role in September (Franco, Williams, Quinn). But it also really showed the extent to which Hoskins and Nola carried the team.
The breakdown is striking but I suspect you can also make the case that they were never really better than a .500 club (luck/easier schedule fueled the three good months).This is a bit more than a correction/regression though.
