It was hangover night and aside from Schwarber and Harper they played that way.

The play is probably to just do whatever he wants, which is to say, he already knows nothing is guaranteed. But he also knows he doesn't have to go to Allentown and can just take the money and start over. If they can mutually agree to work together and see how it goes, knowing he'd accept the assignment, cool. But it's more likely he either makes the team (whether because he shocks us all and looks good enough to start or is merely adequate enough for long man/emergency starter) or gets gone.

And nobody gets shut down now. Everybody throws on the side in case they are needed in a subsequent round. That being said, I pick Lazar at the moment as the 12th man on the playoff staff. Pick a useful reliever and let everyone else stay ready.

I'm not so sure Tanner Banks isn't the 12th reliever, such as it is. Just doesn't seem like a guy I'd want to see in a big spot, or a game where the Phillies lead. 15 of his 19 appearances have been in losses. Arguably Lazar was getting bigger spots when he was here.

I don't trust Walker to reach "bad", Allard and Lazar and Gilbert at least can get someone out.
Walker right now may not even be AAA ball level.

Allard is pretty much batting practice to opposing hitters like Walker at this point. He got lucky with BABIP his first couple of starts but really presents no advantage either and like Walker is not used to pitching out of the bullpen.

The main point is that mediocre relievers are better suited for the last pitching spot, especially in a short series. And if that means a Lazar has to suck up 2+ innings to save the staff then so be it. He'll be happy with his playoff winnings no matter what.

If any of these guys have to pitch it's a bad night already. It comes down to who you would least hate to see in the 11th inning of a tie game if no starting pitcher can be pressed into duty and Ruiz was already used. Which is probably Lazar (and Banks).

If they go to 13 pitchers after the NLDS maybe Turnbull arrives (or maybe he even becomes the 12th) but he wasn't fully suited for bullpen work either.
