He probably won't make the playoff roster at this point, - go figure, we all thought Hale would be the one to go - but I don't imagine he has options and what were they gonna do, bring back McLain or Guerra? The youngsters haven't gotten better results either, and Hembree is still someone you don't want to release (it's certainly possibly they non-tender him but it's also possible he'd come back and pitch great next year).

Still time if the bats wake up but otherwise just be happy with 3 of 4 against a really good time and go do the same in Washington. Even a split against the Nats is probably okay but then you might lose the opportunity to set up the rotation in Tampa.

He's cheap enough to keep, you'd probably end up giving some other guy $2 million otherwise, but it depends on the overall picture and bullpen budget.

Phelps gets a big raise if you take his option, Hector gets a raise either way, Morgan gets a raise and Alvarez, being a total free agent, might not be affordable. But I think I'd rather risk $4.5 on Phelps and a rookie than $2.5 million on Hembree and $2 million for another journeyman/fungible.

He has now mover a very close game much further out of reach.

He is really quite bad though. I'd say Bloom conned us but you have to remember how desperate they were. Hembree was just filler and Workman was obviously not having a good year already.

But in hindsight they absolutely could have kept running Guerra, McLain, Kelley, Brogdon and Rosso out there. Would have continued to lose some games, but probably not any more of them, and maybe one of the five would have contributed more than either of these two have.
