A very nice win for the Phillies today to start the road trip and the four game series in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati was the location of the first ML game I every attended in person. Hard to believe it was more than 69 years ago.

I just checked Vincent's stats. If nothing else, he's been at least solid most of his career. Heck, at least offer him a MiL contract and invitation to Clearwater.

Knapp has options, so if the Phils don't want him in the majors (if Grullon displaces him), but want him in AAA, they will be able to option him. But he has seven years in the system, so if they want him off the 40-man roster, he'll become a minor league free agent.

I reckon Andrew Knapp has a job because they are happy with his defensive/pitcher-handling work overall, plus he's a switch-hitter on a short bench who is an adequate pinch-hitter (a .221 BA being about average, I believe) and rarely plays given how much work Realmuto gets. Doesn't mean his offense has been acceptable, because for that kind of production you can probably have at least a minor defensive upgrade (especially since none of the pitchers Knapp supposedly had a rapport with even stuck in the rotation permanently), but the grass isn't always greener. Of course if Grullon is ready, and given the possiblity of a five-man bench, his time is probably done. You could definitely do worse than to keep him in AAA if they are ready to have three catchers on the 40.

He's regained all his velocity pre-TJ, He was throwing 92-94 today. His command is still erratic, but that's often the last thing to come back.

He may be a marginal 5th starter next year, but there's a real possibility he can be a "bounce back" and a cheap rotation piece for a couple years. Worth gambling a few million out of the cap room that you gave Neshak.

Two years? I might do one loaded with incentives. In that way, if he doesn't return to what he once was and ends up being bad, there's less money that they have to eat.

Smyly will be hard pressed to get more than a minor league deal with incentives from anyone this offseason. Even if you think he has turned a corner, the performance this year was so bad he will not get any guarantee. I am fine bringing him into Spring Training with a chance to win a job. He is just not going to be one of the first 5 guys I would bring in.
