The problem is that I don't see them maturing. I see them getting worse and their dumb mistakes and lack of fundamentals accumulating.

My goal was simply a winning season. Getting 11 more with s will be a herculean challenge.

Then we can only hope Klentak does what’s necessary to improve the ballclub during the off-season. While analytics has its uses, this team’s over-reliance on data may actually be contributing to its woes, as almost no one on the current roster seems to have a good feel for the game. It’s somewhat surprising that grown men who’ve been playing baseball for years would struggle to make simple plays, but this may be an unintended side-effect of the use of numbers rather one’s senses to play the game.

Very disappointing to lose a game started by Aaron Nola by a score of 8-1. With 7 games left against the Braves, the Phillies are probably going to remain in the race for a while. But they sure do not look like a team deserving to be in the playoffs.

The Phillies had 3 hits in an inning in two of the first four innings today and didn't score a run in either inning. Nice to score one in the ninth but by far, too little, too late.

Phillies now 72-64. They still have a cushion for finishing over .500 but if they want to win the NL East, they have to do much better than play .500 for the rest of the season. I don't want to give up yet.

Coming up, a week on the road (3 Marlins, 3 Mets); a week and a half at home (3 Nationals, 3 Marlins, 3 Mets); then an 8 game road trip (4 Braves, 4 Rockies), and then ending the season at home with 3 with the Braves.

26 games remain.
If the Phillies go .500 over the remaining games, they win 85.
If they only go 9-17, they finish 81-81.
If they can go 18-8, they can reach 90 wins.

"Deserving" measures a team against some kind of platonic ideal. We only have to be measured against the Braves. Wild card's probably out of reach, too many teams, too little head-to-head.
