We don't know what would have happened had they pinch-hit for Gibson. Possibly a single followed by a double-play. What actually did happen (bases being loaded) is not what would have, that much is for sure. But they could have used a one-run home run then too.
I don't see this as a bad loss. It's baseball. And they just went .666 on the road when they usually are sub.-.500 overall. A week ago it seemed like it was too late to merely "win every series" but that might actually do it now.
Even before things seemed completely lost a week ago I was merely hoping they'd be 1-2 games behind the Braves heading into the last 6. This morning we were getting greedy (imagining they might be ahead) and yet, that's still possible too. Obviously two games back is still something of a worst case, but even if we merely force the Braves to make up their game against Colorado and/or play a tiebreaker, I'm in.
I can live with 5-2 this week. Just not 4-3. Or worse, which has been their tendency lately.
