I just don't like that teams competing for the same playoff spot, especially the wild card, don't play the same schedule.
The Cubs most likely aren't going to catch the Mets, but the slightly unbalanced interleague schedule could have come into play if those teams were within a game. The Cubs got an extra game against the White Sox while the Mets got an extra game against the Yankees. Both teams swept the Sox, and the Mets took care of business by sweeping the Yankees, but it could have mattered if the Cubs ended up a game ahead of the Mets due to an extra game against the White Sox.
On the other hand, the Mets had an advantage by getting to play a lot more games (26) against the Nationals and Marlins, against whom they've gone 15-8. The Cubs got only 14 games against those doormats, and there weren't any really bad teams in their division.
