Just not enough timely hitting tonight. Give Keuchel credit, he has been a very good signing by the Braves.

Somewhat fitting that Franco makes the final out on a pitch that was clearly ball four. Of course, we can't know what happens if Segura bats with the bases loaded.

Phillies were in the game to the end but come up short again. Pitching gives up no earned runs, but Eflin didn't do well when the error forced him to try to get another out after the inning should have been over with no runs on the board.

I did a quick check of Rodriguez and Franco splits.

Against LHP:
Rodriguez BA .233, OPS .750
Franco BA .234, OPS .737
Not seeing the huge edge for Rodriguez, but against RHP, Franco has a clear edge.
Rodriguez BA .184, OPS .605
Franco BA ..237, OPS .708I

I just don’t see why Rodriguez is getting so many starts at third base. Of course, I don't think either is the answer going into 2020, but we will see what the off season brings.

I also don’t understand why Haseley hasn’t started more games of late. Seems like just when he was doing pretty good, he stopped getting playing time.

Rodriguez fell off, he had like a .900 OPS before August. But when does Rodriguez start ahead of Franco against righthanders? Kingery gets those starts. Or Miller would.

Yes, as I said, Haseley is the guy who should play but Kap specifically said they want to manage his exposure against LHP. Thing is, any night either Rodriguez or Franco starts is a bad line-up. At least with Haseley you get the defense and the fact that it's a learning experience for him.

Wish that the Phillies hitters were like those of the Braves and not extend their strike zones. They’re giving away outs.

It is pretty evident that the Braves are just better at this point. Their lineup is deeper. Their bench is more flexible and contains real offensive options. They fixed their bullpen and added Keuchel who would have been our best or second best starter depending on how Nola is pitching.

The Phillies are much closer in talent to the other wild card contenders at least, and one could argue the bullpen injuries have really hurt us in that race relative to the other teams (though they have had their injuries too). They still have a shot at the wild card but I am guessing the only way it happens is if both Harper and Hoskins get hot again. We are going to give up 4 or 5 runs most games with our middling pitching staff. We just need to score more than that.
