I don’t blame Dominguez for this. He should never have been out there to begin with. This mess is entirely on Kapler, whose head appears to be lodged in his rectum.

This is at least the fourth time Arrieta will have a win lost by the bullpen with a blown save.
Can you draw up a bigger mess than that inning? Nationals get 3 runs on two singles.
I have tried to be supportive of Kapler, but that was pure incompetence.
He repeatedly pulls relievers after a one batter but for some reason, insists on using Dominguez for multiple innings. 43 pitches is far too many for a rookie reliever. It was very clear early on in the ninth that Dominguez was struggling. Garcia should have been in several batters sooner.

Yet if Cabrera fields that ball to him cleanly, they probably turn the double play and they win the game easily.

Fielding does matter.

Especially a reliever who’s already shown signs of overuse. Kapler drives me crazy with his bullpen management, as there doesn’t seem to be any logic to it at all. He needs to stop number crunching and actually observe the behaviors and tendencies of his relievers. Dominguez can’t work more than one inning at a time. How in the world does sending him out for another inning help either him or the ballclub?

That ball must have slipped out and was going so slowly that the runner really could not score from third. It was at least a third of the way to third when it went out of bounds but the catcher got to it before it got to the stands.
