Phillies shutout and totally shut down again. Starting 8 go 0 for 23..
Pinch hitters 1 for 3.

Nola only goes five innings and Pivetta gives up 3 hits and 3 walks in 3 innings. Neither is good enough.

I am afraid we are seeing a collapse like the final third of last season. Phillies need to win two in SF.

it's certainly not like last season because they already played this badly (or worse) in June! and honestly, while they've won some games since then, nothing has happened to make the team better. rotation got worse (new additions aside), bullpen didn't get anyone back, none of the stars have put the offense on their shoulders.

And it's been a sub.-.500 road team all year. They do indeed need to salvage a split here though.

No lineup decision would have made the difference, but it does seem really odd they would choose to rest Realmuto against a left-handed starter when it was not the day game after a night game. I know they had travel and maybe JT is banged up, but they really put out a bad lineup last night when they seemingly did not have to (against a good pitcher).

Hernandez is better than Rodriguez.

Well, at least they didn’t burn threw 5 relievers, Kapler at least let Pivetta do what he can do, pitch a few innings and save the bullpen. That is about the only positive thing to come out of this game.

Actually Cesar has been pretty bad against left-handed pitching. Now whether Franco would be better is another question. Maybe they should have left Franco on the bench if they knew they were going to switch out Haseley for Bruce. It just seemed the wrong day to rest JT also since they could have rested him against a right-handed pitcher where Knapp would have the platoon advantage.

Not a huge deal, but they probably should have gotten a right-handed outfielder instead of Dickerson who might be a bit better than Bruce, but neither helps against LHP.

Sometimes it seems like they just make up their rest plans, like, Gabe mentioned giving JT a day off because it was a travel day and they got in late, but Phoenix to SF is not exactly a cross-country flight. That said he played three games in a row and would have not played either tonight or tomorrow otherwise.

If only Franco had been hitting left-handed pitching!
