One thing to really watch out for that this series (and the Boston series) highlights is the race for second-best (or even best) record in the NL. Home field could be the difference between winning or losing the NLDS, even though upsets obviously happen all the time.

too early for me to be concerned about where the team would end up in the playoffs...just get them in and let the cards fall where they might. A month from now perhaps I can be come concerned where they stand in the entire league provided they are still maintaining the lead.

On a related note a Does anyone feel like we may have stunted Kingery’s development. Guy didn’t play that long in AAA and while he was good he wasn’t great there. We move him up to MLB and he’s been awful. Will that affect his long term outlook or do you think taking his hard knocks on the MLB is better for him?

There's not much time at AAA left. It all depends on Florimon, or maybe Ramos if they keep Knapp.

If the Phillies continue to lead the East they will likely continue to hold the second-best record. It would have been nice to notch another win againt AZ for all the reasons.

Velasquez threw 124 IP in 2013, 136 in 2016.
This year he's up to 113 IP with 50 games left.
His velocity was down tonight, his FB had less movement and his command was bad.
Wonder if we're seeing "tired arm."

Pivetta - 120 IP, career highs 144 IP in 2016, 165 IP in 2017
Eflin - 104 IP, career highs 128 IP in 2014, 132 IP in 2015, 131 IP in 2016, 119 IP in 2017

There isn't much AAA season left. Even less when Crawford and Florimon return. Confidence building and getting back on track likely waits until ST. It gives some encouragement to think of Mike Schmidt's first MLB season, when he also was played out of position at SS. I think before the Phillies put Kingery in the majors and gave him the contract that they assessed his personality and mental resilience and concluded that a season of flailing around in MLB would do no lasting harm to his career. It certainly shows him where he needs to improve.

It was a strategic error not to trade Cesar Hernandez. His value is down.
