Nice job winning the series after losing the first game.

Hoffman looks good going right after the Royals to nail down the win. Walker gets the win, #13.

Schwarber with 3 hits and Harper and Rojas with 2 each plus the home runs, all with at least a runner on base, from Schwarber, Stott, and Castellanos. Big win today. Harper and Turner added doubles to the 12-hit attack by the Phillies.

A feel good win puts the Phillies back to their season best 10 games over .500 as they go into the 4-game set with the visiting Nationals.

Can't say enough about the job Walker did today. Hit hard in the first, and still shaky in the second, he goes on to put up five scoreless innings with only one additional hit to save the bullpen.

Agree that Walker’s effort to go 7 innings with no damage after the 2nd was a key to this victory. I also want to highlight Stott’s 3-run HR in the bottom of the first with two outs - that put the Phillies right back into this game after Walker dug us a deep hole in the top of the first.

If you're going to have a pitcher as DH, Greinke is one of the better options. Lifetime OPS of .598 in 600 PAs. Not exactly a major threat, but not chopped liver either. Too bad he didn't get a chance to bat!

IMO, now that the DH is perm in both leagues and all.. they need to get rid of that rule. No reason you shouldnt be able to let a DH go play the field now and let another actual hitter DH.

I'd agree. Maybe amend it to say once the DH goes to the field they stay in the field (we don't want teams selectively resting players on the field all game, inning by inning).

Of course in practicality they just pinch hit for the pitcher. Maybe in the first couple of innings that would be a problem, but not once or twice later on.

It's a very good sign that Stott has double digit HRs this early in August. I'm guessing he's pushed his OPS+ up to 115, which is 30 points higher than last year.

I know the Win is not really as important pitching stat, but if you had told me that Walker would be leading the league in wins when they signed him…

He has pitched very well for us. I'd guess that DD has gotten more fhan he expected from Walker. It was a real value addition.

Walker is not by any stretch a Cy Young candidate but, dang, he has a realistic shot at winning 20 games this season. Shades of 1989 Storm Davis (won 19 that season with a 4.36 ERA).

I am shocked that he gave them 7 decent innings after that first inning. A little luck might be involved, but we signed him to be a fairly consistent veteran who could pitch a decent number of average innings (much more important to a team than it sounds). If we get 180 average innings out of our 4th starter then good things are going to happen.
