Very nice win. Velasquez gets the win and is now 8-8. ERA down to 3.80 with his work tonight: 6.1 innings, 2 hits, no runs, one walk, 7 strikeouts. Dominguez gets his 12th save, the sixth of more than one inning work.

Hoskins provided the early RBI to get them ahead and then was a part of the insurance later in the game, goes 2 for 4 tonight.

Nice to see Quinn with the hit and two RBIs in the 8th.

Great game by Velasquez. Good to see the bats continue to produce. Quinn was lucky on his double. The ball he hit was a routine single to the outfield and even as speedy as he is he would have been out had the throw been handled properly. He forced a mistake.

With all due respect to Santana, I wish they'd move him out of the cleanup spot.

I think I would rest Herrera tomorrow and give Quinn the start in CF. Herrera needs to reset and get on another hot streak. The day off might help.

Hoskins runs his OPS over .900 with his two hits tonight. Alfaro and Williams with two hits each tonight. As already noted, Alfaro's two singles were both hit deep. Hernandez also has not been hitting much of late, but he did have a couple late walks.

Velasquez certainly had a great start and other than the unusual 3 hits off Neshek in his inning, the bullpen again put up scoreless innings.

Herrera and Santana are both struggling, Hernandez is too to a lesser extent. I’d like to see us keep the hot hand, Quinn, in the lineup and have Herrera and Santana alternate sitting till one of them starts hitting again.

I think your perception is off a bit. I'd argue that Hernandez has been struggling at least as much as Santana, and Herrera's recent performance is right in line with his season stats and his career stats. I think this is what he is.

Clearly my perception is a bit off

I am really such a fan of Quinn and think that he should be playing every day that I really was not judging Herrera and Santana correctly about their recent performance. I was really influenced by their combined 0-7 tonight and not by a more relevant sample size. However Quinn’s .923 OPS since being called up along with his stellar defense do make a case that he has performed better in that time period than those two.

Hernandez is troubling.

Hernandez is probably still hurt, just have to hope it is not one of those, “oops it is broken after all!” two weeks later things. Either way he is not what he was early in the season.

If I am not mistaken, he was a shortstop coming from Port St. Joe when we drafted him. We moved him to the outfield.
