It's unfortunate Knapp is having such a bad season, but he had an .849 OPS last year, switch-hits, and has familiarity/comfort with the staff (especially Eflin). There aren't many upgrades who would want the job of Realmuto's back-up, at major league minimum (though Knapp himself makes more). Jeff Mathis never even made it to the majors this year (for any length of time). Nor Bethancourt. We also could have had Deivy back.
That's not to say they don't have a decision to make this off-season. Do you give the job to Marchan or actually try to upgrade, especially if there's a DH?
