It is not "appalling" though. It is below where you want it for a productive regular, but it is also based on a small sample size and paired with a minor league record (.358 in AA, .349 in AAA) where one could easily see him at the .320 level in the majors over a decent sample. Your comment was more cherry-picking through small sample stats.

Now .320 would not be great, but it is the kind of player he is today and that is probably a good 4th OF who should start for below average teams. If he got better with more experience one has to believe that something .340+ is still possible. The unknown is just how much improvement is possible through more playing time. If he had those extra 1,000-1,500 plate appearances he lost to injury would he be a better player now because he would have developed more with that experience?

I think "appalling" is the correct adjective to describe Roman Quinn's current OBP, in the current season, which is half-over. It's inherently a small sample. The same is true of Cutch (and a stronger word than appalling would be needed to describe Kingery).

Fortunately our overall team offense is very strong, and Quinn and Kingery are at the bottom of the order where we've seen the likes of Freddy Galvis and Maikel Franco getting themselves out in the past, so not a big deal considering how much else Quinn brings to the line-up.

I think we can safely stipulate that Roman would be a great productive everyday player had he been able to stay healthy, and maybe he still will be. He may even defy the age curve for a bit, less wear on him.
