It really does seem kind of simple. Early lead helps your pitcher, good pitching helps your offense, bigger lead helps your bullpen. That's how it was until July.

Hope they can leave with a series win (for a change).

Fingers crossed! They really did a great job of mostly laying off the curve down below the strike zone and were aggressive on Singer’s fast ball in the zone and going the other way or right up the middle.

Phillies get a higher percentage of off speed pitches than any other team in baseball.
Long is probably hoarse telling them to keep their hands back and don't try to pull outside offspeed stuff (GB to SS as your bat rolls over).
Looked like those lessons may finally be taking hold.

Meanwhile, until he tired, Ranger looked like Ranger - give him two more starts to build his stamina back up.
Still need to find a 5th starters, Walker, Phillips, Allard have all failed. Turnbull out.

Well, Allard's now our sixth starter. And Phillips probably would have gotten the job today if he'd been recallable. They are going to have to muddle through. More important to keep Ranger and Wheeler and Nola sharp/rested. Sanchez too.
