We can say that it is bad now, but honestly look back at the early 90s. It was laughable before umps started getting judged by the technology. Now, when an ump misses a pitch that is 1-2 inches from being a ball or strike it is considered very bad, but there was a time that they were calling strikes on stuff a foot off the plate (The main reason Greg Maddox is in HOF). Sadly the absolute worst ump at calling balls and strikes I ever saw was our old buddy, the late / great Eric Gregg. If it was between the dugouts he might call it a strike.
