I listened to Red Sox radio late and they seemed very objective! They very sympathetically talked about Knapp's golden sombrero and also Hoskins' slump. You could tell they were parroting stuff from the press notes and talking to other media but still.

I will be sending music requests to the Fenway organist tomorrow myself.

Yeah, the Red Sox radio broadcasts are also very good. Joe Castiglione has been doing them since the early 1980s, when he replaced an unknown named Jon Miller. He's had a lot of partners over the years, and this year they are rotating a bunch of people to team with him, including Sean McDonough and even O'Brien when the game is on national TV. Last night they had Chris Berman, right? He came on the TV broadcast in the 5th inning. It was the annual Jimmy Fund pledge drive, and Berman's daughter has been treated for tongue cancer at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, where the Jimmy Fund is focused. Jerry Remy is also a cancer survivor.

yeah I was a little confused by Berman at first! But he was not CHRIS BERMAN away from ESPN. I guess that's also why it didn't seem as skewed towards the home team.

I'm a little late on this point, but I wanted to make sure I mentioned it -- even after a win:

There was an inning in the middle of the game when the Phils had a leadoff single, a fielder's choice, another out, then one more single, before an out that ended the frame. Two hits, no sacrifice, and no runs scored. And I see them falling into this very current-day trap pretty often.

Is the team's management allergic to bunts? I know they're somehow seen as creaky and old-school in the era of "whoever hits the most homers gets to win," but it seems to me that the Phillies would make their sometimes sputtery offense a lot more effective if they could move runners to 2nd base, rather than changing the identity of the guy still at 1st.
