Franco has certainly shown that he can be part of the future.

Finally some runs. Sure makes a difference. Makes Hunter the winning pitcher.

Credit the walks taken by Hoskins and Cabrera as contributing to Franco being able to get this great walk off homer.

Win was exciting. Seeing the offense struggle to get hits and put up runs against a last place team? Not so much. And, I think the Nationals are about to make their run. So, this race is going to get really tough. Offense is going to have to do its part. Tonight, it did just enough.

Pitching to Franco there is just plain dumb. He has been red hot.

Phillies are a young team that struggles with the kind of pitchers that give minor leaguers fits, guys with good changeups, mixing off speed pitches well.
They'll have their ups and downs, but they'll probably get hot at some point and pound the ball for a couple weeks.

Good game for Hoskins, going 2 for 3 with the home run and the walk in the bottom of the ninth to get things started. I was a little concerned that the game might go extra innings and we would end up without him after they pinch ran with Kingery. Glad they got the win without going extra innings tonight.

Hernandez certainly has been sinking of late. It sure would be nice to get him going like he was earlier in the year.

Not much offense tonight until the bottom of the 9th. Phillies 1 for 2 with RISP and only left 3 on base. Marlins were 1 for 1 with RISP and left 2 on base. Phillies pitching outstanding with only one pitch that hurt them.

Record now 60-48. Phillies remain a half game in first place.

Atlanta beat the Mets and are 58-47.
Washington defeated Cincinnati and are 55-53.

60 wins! The Phillies reached 60 wins with 54 games remaining. If the Phillies win just half of their remaining games then they will reach 87 wins. I think they have a real shot for 90 or more at this point.

This game is a good example of balancing development with winning.

PIvetta had a good game except for one pitch, second changeup in a row which he throw down the center of the plate knee high - but to take the next step one thing he has to do is develop and trust a changeup - so you have to live with these mistakes because if he just relies on his 4 seamer (which is hittable despite good velocity) and breaking pitches he'll never take that next step.

Its amazing that this team is 12 games over .500. If you look they don't have a single hitter in the top 40 in WAR in fact their best WAR number for a hitter is Cesar at 2.0. They do have Rhys tied for 8th in home runs 6 off the pace to lead, with Odbel, Franco and Cabrera in top 20 in home runs (add in Santana and they are 5 in the top 30). Its about the pitching on this team. The old adage that Pitching and Defense win games is half right since our defense is not very good. Have to give Gabe credit he is finding a way to will this team to victory.

I agree about what it looked like off the bat but then it seemed to keep floating further and further back and I started yelling "go baby go, go , go , go" and sure as a Carlton slider would end up in the dirt, it went over the flower beds !!!!!
