you're not going too far when your 2nd and 3rd hitters go 0-9. the other team's goes 5-10. Mets can hit, Phils inconsistent and that's why the disparity in the standings. if they can't win tonight, I think they get swept. payback from that series in '07 or '08 I believe.

I'm not really understanding the negativity with Nola. I get that he didn't have a good outing yesterday, but when facing a good lineup that does occasionally happen, and he's been far from terrible against them this year.

A week ago he posted an 8 IP, 1 ER performance against the same lineup. That game he saw even worse run support (granted, against DeGrom), and took a 1-0 loss.

Aaron Nola is currently 12th in the NL in ERA and 6th in RA9 WAR. Like sure he would be 3 behind Scherzer and deGrom, but that is almost every pitcher.

That Wheeler and Nola has been inconsistent is a very big part of the problem when separating us from the Mets. In my view that biggest difference between the teams is the pitching, not the offense.

We're close. The Mets are averaging 4.76 runs/game; the Phillies 4.60. NL league average is 4.40. The difference is 0.16 runs/game.

Not quite as close with runs allowed/game: Mets are at 3.74, Phils are 4.02. League average is 4.39. The difference is 0.28.

Without going to the trouble of calculating standard deviations on R/G and RA/G, it would appear that the pitching gap is about twice as large as the hitting gap. Not large, in either case, but the Phils are a bit behind in both categories.
