Never a good night when you blow a 5 run lead and lose a one run game.
Clearly, blowing that lead is on the pitching, specifically on Lorenzen. Bullpen called on for 4.2 IP and they only give up one run, although the Nationals did get 5 hits and a walk from them.
Phillies had chances to get the lead back but as noted, the big hitters didn't hit too often this game. Castellanos batting cleanup goes 0 for 5 with 4 Ks, but somehow managed to look even worse than the numbers suggest. JT had a big hit in the 6 run inning, but K'd in all his other at bats. I really wanted Turner to get a hit in the 7th when batting with the bases loaced, but it was just another bad at bat ending in a swinging strikeout. The first pitch, a called strike, was the only pitch clearly in the strikezone. The two he swung and missed were likely going to be called balls, on was clearly not in the strikezone. The other was close to the edge and might have been called a strike. They had chances to get back in the game but just couldn't get it done.
Maybe tomorrow goes better. Tonight is a disappointment.
