There two loses to the Padres are a blow to the Phillies post season chances. The season is winding down and they cannot afford too many days like these past two.

Decent starting pitching wasted again today. Offense just not able to score enough runs to be successful. Only four hits today.

No one can expect a team that has underperformed at the plate since the start of ST to turn it around with a wave of Charlie’s wand/bat. Whatever Mallee was doing with them has them broken. Most of the players are in a funk of inconsistency. Their approaches to an AB, stances, swings and the like are out of whack. They need to unlearn what they’ve been doing for months. It’s going to take time and work on their part to turn it around. The good thing is that they have the ability to do it but maybe just not this season.

Ricky Bo said on the post game Gabe Kapler still considers a good AB a player taking a lot of pitches. In fairness to Kapler, I think he was trying to be positive about Hoskins despite his slump. On the other hand Schmidt really questioned his approach on the air too.

This team is flawed offensively -- they play for the HR and can't hit enough of them at CBP. The small park worked against them too today, they gave up two home runs that would have not gone out of almost every other park.
