Not to downplay any individual's importance, but hurting Quinn's arm is IMO more costly than Leiter, who should have been prepared to throw quite a few more pitches than he did today without any ill results.

Really hard to take this game. Early on, the Phillies were fighting back and in the game. There is no doubt in my mind that the failure to make plays in the field were the direct cause of this overwhelmingly bad game.

Completely agree. Quinn is much more valuable to this club because he’s one of the few players who makes an impact in every facet of the game. Leiter pitching for an additional inning or two would have made no difference in the outcome. The game was over the moment Kapler decided to use him.

Given Quinn’s recent injury history, I can’t believe anyone would use him to mop up. Kapler has some explaining to do.

Well, it's 24-12 right now with three games to go. But with Thor and DeGrom next, no, I won't lay $. Could still see it though. 5 runs over the next two days and 7-8 on Sunday. (Plus, we got two innings to go.)

It is interesting how position player pitching strategy has evolved this season. It is ridiculous on one hand and completely logical on the other. With the DH the Phillies did the right thing.

What I have noticed is that more and more position players seem to be told to NOT throw hard. Probably memories of Jose Canseco hurting himself. I imagine both Quinn and Kingery could throw 88-90 if they wanted to. Quinn chose to throw 78 and Kingery went with the slow pitch softball approach. Neither were really effective of course, though the point was to not get hurt which was mission accomplished.

Looking back over the box score and summary, I believe I may have mistakenly said the ten runs in the fifth inning were all unearned. It looks like 8 of the 10 were unearned and that 3 previous runs charged to Suarez were also unearned, making the number of unearned runs 11 for the game, as was previously stated.

After the first game fiasco, it was important for the Phillies to come back and win the second game. We are now looking at 3 more with the Mets and hopefully can take at least 2 of them. Tonight is a key game with Nola on the mound.

mets 25 on 8/17, phils 20 for 5 game series. never would have thunk it. zamby, i was with you. i thought they would score alot tonight against that pitcher. but coming in with a plus 8 era, i should have known better. they need a spark. quinn should be the centerfielder. they missed a good chance this weekend.
