Players have slumps. Pretty much ALL players have slumps. The nice thing here is that there are other players who can step up, and are doing so.
Couple of additional observations:
As others have noted, this was supposed to be a developmental year - and I could easily find posts from last winter by people here bemoaning the fact that it looked like a developmental year, and that it would be several more years until the Phillies could contend. Well, it IS a developmental year - but the contention part is not only ON schedule, it's AHEAD of schedule. Negativity is trumped by subsequent reality.
Speaking of negativity being trumped by subsequent reality...How long ago was it that certain posters here were basically condemning Nick Williams to the dustbin? Not much of that lately - but Williams is the same player he was in April; it's just that people are now seeing his daily production instead of his occasional less-than-ideal statements to media, his urban underclass background... whatever it was.
Moral: If you're quick to condemn, if you're compelled to form, and express, judgements based on limited data, or skewed by things that aren't data at all... you sometimes get to look foolish later on.
