A very strange and interesting game.

Phillies give Orioles three runs on two misplays in the field. Two on the pop up that Segura didn't catch and one on the single to center that Quinn tried to shoestring and let two runs score. Really, good fielding and the Phillies win tonight.

Encouraged that the Phillies kept scoring, but really disappointing to lose this game.

Bullpen continues to struggle beyond belief. I knew it was not a strong point but I never thought it could be as bad as it has been. I do think it will get better.

Phillies now 5-7 for this season. They split 2-2 with the Yankees and the Braves and are now a combined 1-3 against the Marlins and Orioles. I have to think that the Marlins and the Orioles are the teams they need to go 3-1 against, not 1-3.

I hope this game will motivate the Phillies and that they go on to take the next 5 games. It could happen.

Undoubtedly but right now they both have winning records.

Hate to lose the opener, and a Wheeler start. But a crazy game in a lot of ways. And pretty much par for the course for Neris, The rest of the pen, just gotta keep trying guys, no magic upgrades out there for three weeks. Maybe we'll get lucky with a Williams or De Los Santos trade but it would still be just a body.

Hard to believe that the bullpens 9.87 ERA coming into the game went UP. Welcome to double digits.

Do we have a bullpen coach? Can he be executed in hopes of appeasing the baseball gods?

I started thinking this season would be a “pass” for Klentak, but it could actually be so lopsidedly bad that it proves he is unable to put together a team.

Painful as it was I wish I'd been able to actually watch that game closely (I had to watch the MLS tournament final, and had one eye on the crazy hockey game for a while too).

How can the current season be bad for Klentak when it is not actually going badly? The starters have been excellent, the hitters lead MLB in OPS and they are 5-7. Would rather be 6-6 or 7-5 but that's hardly a difference to freak out about. I was also expecting them to be 4-8 by now (and 3-8 going into the Orioles series). It will actually be more unfortunate if they start to put it together and the pen (including Hector) keeps a good team from being a great team, especially in the post-season. But a lot of miles left before that's a worry. My biggest concern is there might not be enough available on the trade market, since everyone will want a reliever.

There is always a negative backlash following a loss like this first game in the Baltimore series.

Positives were plenty, however. Still, it really is hard to see a loss primarily due to not making a couple routine, really easy, plays in the field. The pop up is clearly in that category and the inside the park home run should have been played as a routine single to center, directly to the centerfielder. Of course, we don't know what happens next if Quinn makes that play, but we do know that if the pop up is caught for an out, the Orioles do not score those two runs.

I hope we can get a couple wins to take this series and then take the series with the Mets. I think we all feel better if that happens.

Well that's the thing, a game like that just looks like a glitch, not a referendum.Our closer and defense lost that game, not our bad bullpen in general. In a normal season you shrug it off and move on; in this season you can't really even blast the coaching staff for not having them ready to play, because there is still no reason for them to be physically or mentally sharp, and they literally don't get the instruction and practice they normally would even when they get to put in the time.
