I really don't care about relievers only facing one or two batters. The real issue was deciding our failed starters were also the answer to the bullpen, especially with Morgan hurt and Nicasio cratered.

At this point you gotta pull Pivetta like a hockey goalie. But yes, the game is lost.

Pivetta gets a pitch drilled again but luckily Segura made a play on it.

Honestly I have no clue what Klentak is waiting for. We know it happens this offseason, it has to. You can’t fail this bad with all the money that was spent.

This all reminds me of Ray Rhodes last season with the Eagles. Everyone knew he had to go, but for some reason it was “better” to let the torture continue.

Day off tomorrow. Last chance to light a fire under this team before the season fades away. Make the move and see if it makes a difference.

I thought it was the series opener, being one-hit by Bumgarner & Co. with our best starter (Nola) on the mound. But you’re right, this one feels worse.

I don't think they were close to firing anybody two weeks ago, seriously. I also don't think the manager was getting fired if they came up a little short. Though you could also say that if Klentak really wanted Gabe to keep his job he would have made better trades.

But where they seem to be headed now - 4th place and 5th or 6th in the WC, yeah.

It's not actually surprising that they lost two road series to two teams that probably are as good or better than them (though some of that came with players those teams have since traded away).This one is more about how they lost it.

I agree, it is how they are losing. Honestly, as is, I can’t see them staying above .500, and given the monumental crash last year (more expected) you have to make a move.

Managers that win in April and May and lose in August and September don’t last long.

Alvarez had 2 outs and a runner on first. why did Kapler feel he needed to make a move to Pivetta? I see no reason to assume Alvarez could not have gotten out of the inning.

Alvarez gives up a ground ball single just out of the reach of Segura and then gets two outs. Then Kapler changes pitchers to bring in Pivetta and the game is lost. Why make that pitching change?

This is what Kapler did last year and again this year. I think he kills his bull pen.

I just don’t like the way Gabe manages.

Phillies will have to turn things around to match the 80 wins of last season. Sure, they could get hot. The Mets are an example of what can happen but that seems unlikely for this Phillies team. I think they are better than they are playing. Getting 10 hits and 11 walks sets up many chances to score and while they did get some runs, they again left far too many on the bases that they didn’t get in.

Glad they are off tomorrow. I need a break.
