The Padres believe he is now one of the best catchers in baseball and hits with power, can run [2 stolen bases against the Phils this week] and is an excellent defensive catcher and pitch framer. Renfroe is doing well also, and coming into the Phillies series, had hit homers in 4 games in a row.
Amaro wanted Renfroe, Hedges and Wisler for Hamels and depending on your views on Williams, Alfaro and Eickhoff you can decide which deal made more sense. Wisler now pitches for the Braves. Renfroe and Hedges are two young mainstays on a young Padre team.
