I had the game playing on my phone and when Bohm committed the error my phone went dead as the battery died. I had to come on here to read the results and I am very surprised but happy!

That lineup will not be down for much longer. I hope they wait another 2 games. Although the Phils lineup is ready to come back as well.

Or maybe your phone couldn’t bear to watch an impending 9th meltdown.

I was watching on my phone up 'til the error and then switched to radio in the car, that must have been at it. Great pitching lately! I have not written off Knebel. Still good to pick his spot and today there weren't as many options but it got done. It's just nice to see this team win some games like this.

Super start to the road trip, winning the first two games.

After the Bohm error, I did not think Knebel would be able to hold the Cardinals scoreless. He started off with the walk, but his first two pitches, both called balls, were great pitches that appeared to touch the strike zone line on TV. Never good to start off with a walk, but the grounder to Bohm should have at least gotten the lead runner. Having the lead runner reach third with no outs just seemed hopeless yet Knebel got the next three hitters without letting that run score. A super job.

Bohm has all 3 RBIs in St. Louis.

Funny how when there's a man on third with no outs for the other team it seems hopeless and when there's a man on third with no outs for our team it seems hopeless.

I assumed Moniak might not actually bat if his turn came up but that did cross my mind. I wonder if Thomson makes that move if normal extra innings were in effect. I bet he does, managers almost never manage for an 11th (or even 10th) inning that might not come.

Right now there is very little difference between Monisk & Castellanos coming to the plate with men in base.

I always think about the chance of an extra inning game whenever we remove one of our better hitters for a runner or for a defensive replacement.

However, I expect one of these days Moniak is going to hit a big home run to win a game.

:grinning:

Yeah I think we all do, and we all notice it when it actually happens too. But the numbers probably still say don't manage for theoretical and low-probability events. They were trying to win it in the 9th, and Knebel also could have easily lost in the 9th. Sending eight guys to the plate in the 10th or even getting that many guys through by the 11th without winning the game both pretty unlikely.
