Win today behind Nola gives the Phillies a series win over the Mets. Solid pitching after scoring 4 in the top of first made for a comfortable ride to the win. Nola with another great start for the win. Two late home runs from Bruce and one from Hoskins added runs to take pressure off the bullpen in the late innings. A very nice way to go into the all star break.
They are 3-3 so far in July and 1-1 in the two series. For the road trip, they lose the first two series and end 4-5 for the nine games. Not disastrous by any means but really not overcoming the steady June swoon which had them losing 6 of 9 series in June, leading to their slide from being a few games ahead in first place to third place behind the Braves and Nationals.
I hope the team benefits from having some off days and that they come back ready to win some games. I do think they need to add a couple pieces to compete this season and I expect they will make additions. Hopefully they will get the right players and have a little luck in how it all works out.
