Certainly an improbably win in the second game. Kudos to the team for not giving up. After the absolutely terrible pitching to start the game and give the Nationals a 7 run lead early, they go into the final inning down 3. The overturn of Segura reaching first safely to start the inning pretty much crushed any hopes I had and then with two outs, even Miller's hit looked like too little, too late. Cutch was down in the count 0-2 before working the walk and then they managed to tie the game and actually left runners on second and third. Then the Nationals kept the pressure on scoring the phantom runner in the 8th. At that point, I knew the Phillies had a decent chance to get their runner in from second, but of course, even with the bases loaded, I feared the old ground ball to an infielder that might have ended the inning. But Miller was up to the task. Well done. The come from behind win was especially uphill with both Hoskins and Harper going out of game two with injuries.
Phillies go 4-4 in the 8 games at home with the Braves and Nationals. That is what I figured was the minimum they had to go to stay competitive. They need to win some series on the road starting in Pittsburgh. I hope Harper and Hoskins are back quickly. As for the next twenty hours or so, I don't expect much if anything via trades.
