I have an idea to speed up baseball games-- It won't work in every game but it will surely work for the Phillies. Every time Kingery comes to the plate, start the count at 0-2 and then get on with the rest of the at-bat. Everyone in the ballpark knows that it will soon be 0-2, there is no drama involved until that transpires, and the game can move along. (I don't know where to find statistics on the % of at-bats he goes 0-2, but at that he is remarkably consistent).

Yes, there was a time earlier this season when the Reds were much worse.

Embarrassingly, the Phillies lose 3 of 4 to the Reds. It happens, but they need to turn things around quickly or they can quickly fall down in the standings.

On to two in Boston. Should be tough. It will be a real test of this team to see how they come back.

I see Cabrera's OPS has fallen to .801. Franco went up to .802 today, so for now, 3 regulars over .800 but it could be one very soon.

Kinda feel like if a .550 team plays a .450 team in their park four times you'd expect a split, so losing 3 is frustrating but not embarrassing, but that s just me.

Frustrating is probably a better description of the performance in Cincinnati than the embarrassing that I used as the game ended. The Phillies have played well over expectations all season, but all teams, even the very best, will have spells of bad performance and bad results.

Atlanta wins over LA to run their record to 55-47. At 58-47, Phillies hold on to a 1.5 game lead over the Braves, although they are even in the loss column. Washington was defeated by the Marlins today, 5-0, so they gain no ground. Nationals were held to two hits. Their record is now 52-53.

Miami in 4th over the Mets by percentage points, both 13.0 games behind the Phillies.

I will be happy with a 1-1 split in the Boston stop.

I think the Phillies will be helped by two days off this week. They looked like their adrenaline had run down.

They have one day off, on Wed. 8/1.

They could be out of first by then. Too. But for sure, an off-day and four home games against Miami will be welcome after the Dodgers and two tough road stretches. Reds have been almost as good as the Red Sox depending where you cherry-pick their last 6-8 weeks.

Split in Boston would be good; a sweep by us would offset the Reds' series, if we get swept it's time to steady the ship afterwards.

Good news is the Braves and Nats havent been any better. Very weak division this year with 2 very bad teams, 2 good not very good teams and 1 average.
