The ridiculousness of the hold: Alvarado gets one. Yes, Suarez gave up a hit that allowed the run to score to tie the game, but Alvarado was by far the one most responsible for the blown 3 run lead. Just like W and L stats, where Wheeler pitches shutout ball for 23 outs and comes away with nothing. Of course, who caused that? Looks like Alvarado to me. The sad thing to me is that Alvarado could be a really good reliever and possible a really good closer, but he has to gain control of his pitching. Too often he seems to be throwing hard but not able to throw pitches where he wants them. I would hope the coaches could work on this but they probably are already. Of course, the Phillies were able to get Alvarado in trade because another club was also unable to harness his great potential.
It is a shame thet Wheeler did not get a win tonight but it was another outstanding start and the Phillies did get a win in the end. Kudos to the team for not giving up. Suarez got the out with a RISP to end the ninth and pitched the scoreless tenth. Miller pinch hitting in the tenth got the big hit for the walk off win.
