Watched the 9th inning.
I don’t for one second think that Neris intended to hit him. He really had no reason to. Bad umpiring.
I stick to the statement Neris needs his semi-annual break from high leverage situations. He missed the catchers target on almost every pitch. When his splitter is in the strike zone (which it should never be) it is a batting practice pitch. It has to be low to work.
Kapler isn’t doing anything “wrong”, but sometimes a guy just isn’t leading a team. He isn’t. He is learning to be a manager, we shouldn’t be a learning manager’s team, that was the last 6 seasons.
Knapp actually did something well. Freaking miracle.
I think we were 4-5 with runners in scoring position. Hey, that is at least a good average.
Credit to Dusty Walthan. He could have sent Knapp on Hernandez’s single and I think he would have made it. Waltham had his head in the game and realized that there was no reason to risk it. Could have lost the game right there and he made the correct, conservative, thinking move.
Harpers hit really was a single and a very bad error. It should not have won the game if you didn’t watch. The CF tried to short hop the ball and missed (Harper drilled it). It probably should have been Kingery on 2nd not scoring.
Dusty Waltham wasn’t mentioned, but his alertness May have won the game.
