You're not wrong, but no team has eight great or even good relievers, and this one only has seven relievers, period, at the moment. There are certain relievers you only put in unwinnable games. Sometimes you get lucky and they do well, and your team comes back. Sometimes not. Ruiz has actually been quite a bit better than that more nights than not compared to some of the other #8s of the past few years or even decades (including this year: Brogdon, Ricardo Pinto, even Turnbull as a reliever).
I did wonder, if things got really out of hand tonight, if they might have considered DFAing Ruiz to get a fresh arm tomorrow. But he's not someone they want to lose just yet.
