Alvarado is what he is, which is why he was available.
Another example (along with Coonrod and those two guys we added a few years go) that velocity is overrated, velocity without command and control is just for show, light up the radar gun before you get lit up.
Meanwhile, the changeup seems to have replaced the slider as the RP no. 2 pitch, though I think Suarez had a good slider, he wasn't using it today.
Falter to me is the best candidate for the #5 SP slot, I'd jettison VV, enough is enough, every year the same, a few good starts, then the meltdown (same with Pivetta, as the Red Sox are learning). Suarez is probably also better suited to starting, but that will have to wait for a bullpen to be developed.
