GDT 6/7/22 Philadelphia Phillies (Suárez, R) @ Milwaukee Brewers (Alexander)

I am curious to see who the Phillies bring up to MLB sooner: Alvarado, Morales or Appel. They also looked at Rosenthal. I guess Sanchez is technically the extra guy right now. Only 10 more days until the limit finally kicks in.

I would say Alvarado is back assuming a couple more good outings. They just needed to fix him in a lower pressure environment.

One advantage of Kingery being up is that is a 40-man spot we can get back when we need it. Assume that when Maton or Carmago is healthy we move Kingery back down. Appel will be worth a look at some point. We just don't want to DFA anyone to do it.

I'd let Morales stay down there for awhile and maybe introduce him into pitching back to back days. He has never done it and that probably will be important down the road.

As Phillies phans, how did we even get the idea that closers should be easy to watch? I mean, we had Lidge, but he would still put guys on base even in his perfect season. Did I miss the part where instead of Mitch Williams or Jose Mesa we had Mariano Rivera at some point?

The sad thing is Wagner and Papelbon were both very good, but on not good enough teams. Madson too, briefly, on slightly better teams (Giles as well, but he's been a mess more years than not since then). And then from Jeanmar Gomez to now, not-great closers on never-great teams.

Watching Mitch Williams scarred me for life when it comes to closers.

I'm not sure any manager would let Mitch close these days, even with the strikeouts. It would be like letting Alvarado close I guess. Though I also think his arm was destroyed by that World Series, more than it being typical Wild Thing.

Brogdon is back to 97, combined with his changeup, he can be very good.
IF they can fix Knebel and Alvarado, they can have a good bullpen.
It would be even better if Morales continues to progress in Lehigh and can be added by August.
It's too bad that none of the lefties, Dohy, Warren, Jones, have stepped up.
