Alfaro finally got the pitch to hit on the full count but didn't swing. Where does he want the ball?

Turning point of the game probably the walk to a career 0-12 hitting reliever. The only walk given to the Cubs today. Both teams had 6 hits but the Phillies got 9 walks. Plenty of chances but I just cannot believe some of the pitches Phillies hitters swing at. Altherr in the 9th swung at a fast ball that was way low with the count 1-0 and then took the next pitch, which was in the strike zone and looked like a good pitch to hit.

So the finish the road trip 3-7. We saw some terrible play but also some good things. The manager left me wondering several times. I hope the return home helps get things back on track.

Must have been looking offspeed but his previous swings showed he was catching up to the velocity. Of course it is easier to hit 99 mph when we are watching on TV than in person.

I probably would have put Alfaro in for Knapp also, but this does beg the question of why Knapp is still up with the team if we are going to PH for him when he has the better platoon advantage. He is supposed to be our "offensive" catcher. If he can't start to hit a bit I'd rather have Logan Moore (or Cameron Rupp).

Like many other games, there are so many questions hanging out there that need to be answered. Perhaps "analytics" have the answers but then maybe not. A young team with an inexperienced manager creates a lot of "what ifs". Back in the day, the formula used to be: hits +walks divided by two should equal runs scored. Obviously that isn't happening right now. Personally, I don't care for a lot of the moves being made this year from line ups down to in game decisions. We'll have to see how it all plays out over 162 games. In the end the record will say what this team was and where corrections could be made.

enjoy it, I am pretty sure the Cubs enjoyed having more runners cross home plate.

I am pretty sure a basketball team would always take getting more free throw shots than the other team, and a soccer team would take getting more penalty kicks, and a hockey team more power plays, and a football team outgaining their opponents in yards, They are all a good start but without being able to finish it didn't help in this particular game.

Correct, but at some point "getting on point" has to translate to "scoring runs." That didn't happen yesterday.

At the risk of using simpler stats,it's not a mystery. The BA and slg are too low. I am a huge fan of walks, but while increasing guys on base increases opportunity to score, you still need to hit to get the run across the plate. The 1993 team was a walking machine, but they also hit with power. We really need the April Hoskins back. Also need someone to get hot.
