This is really hard to believe. I have followed the Phillies through many last place or close seasons, but I do not remember ever a team as good as this team that lost so many games after holding a lead late in the game. This is looking like an historic failure for the bullpen again.

A great start from Velasquez tonight and I am happy for him, getting the win. VV goes 7 innings of shutout ball, 2 hits, NO walks, 7 Ks. Very well done.

Bullpen comes on to allow 3 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks and wild pitch. Not a satisfactory night for the bullpen in spite of Alvarado getting (I won't say earning) a save. I guess I should not be critical of the bullpen since they didn't blow the lead, but really, is it too much to have scoreless innings from the bullpen, late in the game?

Offense gets four runs and somehow, it was enough. They only had 3 hits, but 7 walks helped.

Great to win the first game of this series with the Marlins.

VV was throwing more breaking balls than I can remember, maybe he's finally realized he can't throw his FB past people on a regular basis?

As far as velocity, Alvardo shows why it's overrated, he should be unhittable with a consistent 100 MPH FB, but his command is spotty and he doesn't have great movement. He needs to throw a secondary pitch for strikes so hitters can't time his FB - just shows how "natural selection" has resulted in ML hitter who can make contact with 95-100 MPH FBs on a regular basis - as long as they're smart enough to lay off the FB high in the zone.

It was the team that wanted Vince to throw mostly fastballs. Not sure why you portray this as Vince being stubborn when basically a different version of what happened to Eflin also happened to Velasquez. The team simply had a bad plan for making each an effective starting pitcher.
